The Vegas Golden Knights are embroiled in a battle with the Edmonton Oilers. The winner will have the inside track to the Western Conference crown and perhaps the Stanley Cup.

As the series teeters to each side, the NHL betting odds are skewing toward Edmonton but not as much the Golden Knights. The Round Two series between the Golden Knights and Edmonton is tied 2-2 after Edmonton’s chaotic Game 4 win.

Nicolas Roy scored the only goal for Vegas, though the Golden Knights kept Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl off the scoreboard for the second consecutive game.

The odds change as the series swings, so if you want to get in on some of the long shot bets, do so before they win a game or two and the odds shift in their favor.

The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. There is nothing else like them.

Vegas Golden Knights                 +170              (17/10)

We see some value in the Golden Knights as such an underdog. When the series is tied 1-1, the winner of Game 3 wins about 67% of the series. The Golden Knights coasted to an easy win in Game 3 at Rogers Place 5-1.

Despite the winning team filling the net in each game of the Round Two series, only Game 1 hit the Over.

The other Western Conference series is also tied 2-2. The Seattle Kraken and Dallas Stars are trading wins and sloppy performances, just as are Vegas and Edmonton.

That series will return to Dallas for Game 5.

Some of the other sportsbooks are also taking bets on the next head coach of the Washington Capitals and Calgary Flames. Bruce Boudreau is among the favorites for several jobs.

Joel Quenneville and former Capitals coach Peter Laviolette are also prominent names on the betting board, though Quenneville must be approved by the league because of his knowledge of the Chicago Blackhawks scandal and coverup of the sexual assault by then video coach Brad Aldrich.

In the Eastern Conference, the Florida Panthers missed a chance to eliminate the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday. Toronto avoided the sweep by winning Game 4 in Florida.

Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has been stellar since taking over for Alex Lyon in the Round One upset of the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Boston Bruins.

The Carolina Hurricanes could eliminate the New Jersey Devils Thursday. Carolina blew out New Jersey Tuesday for a 3-1 series lead and it looks like the Devils’ first playoff run since 2018 will come to an unceremonious end.
