HENDERSON— With two shutouts in his last two appearances, Henderson Silver Knights goaltender Laurent Brossoit has been named the AHL player of the week from Dec. 12-18. This is the first time a member of the Silver Knights has been selected for the award.

Brossoit had a perfect weekend stopping 64/64 shots in a 5-0 Silver Knights win over the San Jose Barracuda and in a 3-0 Silver Knights win over the Abbotsford Canucks. He has not allowed a goal in 142:26 and has only allowed four goals on his last 151 shots.

The 29-year-old goaltender was sent down by the Vegas Golden Knights in mid-November for a conditioning stint with the HSK. He is coming off of hip surgery, similar to Robin Lehner.

Brossoit was signed to be the team's backup goaltender behind Lehner, but now things have changed due to injuries and other players emerging.

It was announced in the late summer that Robin Lehner would miss the entire 2022-23 season, which prompted the Golden Knights to trade for Adin Hill. The tandem of Hill and Logan Thompson has been solid for the Golden Knights so far this season, which meant Brossoit has stayed in the minors.

Given his strong play in Henderson and the fact that he would normally be a backup goaltender in the NHL, many have speculated whether or not Brossoit could be traded by the VGK for cap space (his cap hit is $2.325 million) so that he can have an opportunity to play in the NHL elsewhere.

So far this season, Brossoit is 5-6-0 with the struggling Silver Knights and has a 2.40 GAA  and .919 sv%.
