The Vegas Golden Knights (46-21-6, 98 points) defeated the Edmonton Oilers (41-23-9, 91 points) in overtime 4-3 Saturday night. It wasn't a perfect win, but the VGK battled and were opportunistic with their chances, finishing off a three-game road trip with a perfect sweep.

Nicolas Roy scored the overtime game-winner in just his second game back into the lineup. Jack Eichel had a goal and two assists.

Both Keegan Kolesar and Laurent Brossoit returned from injury, with Brossoit starting. Ben Hutton also came into the lineup with Alec Martinez's absence, and head coach Bruce Cassidy readjusted his line combinations.

FIRST PERIOD

  • In warmups, Zach Whitecloud took a puck to the face, which forced him to wear a full bubble shield during the game.
  • 1-0 VGK GOAL- Just a minute into the game, Ivan Barbashev found Jack Eichel cross-ice, who scored on Stuart Skinner.
  • 1-1 EDM GOAL- Leon Draisaitl muscled his way to a puck and found Zach Hyman on the doorstep for a tap-in goal.
  • Chandler Stephenson circled back to find Nicolas Roy, who took a slapshot that Stuart Skinner denied.
  • Laurent Brossoit made two back-to-back big saves on Evan Bouchard and Mattias Ekholm.
  • EDM PP- Phil Kessel took a tripping powerplay on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, putting the leagues-best powerplay on the board.
  • On the penalty kill, Brayden McNabb blocked a shot that likely would have been a goal to Leon Draisaitl.
  • After allowing a goal on the first shot he faced in the game, Laurent Brossoit made big saves on Evander Kane and Zach Hyman.
  • VGK PP- The Golden Knights got their first powerplay of the game, with Kailer Yamamoto going off for holding.
  • Ivan Barbashev accepted a pass in the slot on the powerplay and rang a shot off the crossbar.
  • 2-1 VGK GOAL- On the second powerplay unit, Pavel Dorofeyev found a loose puck and wristed it home.

SECOND PERIOD

  • Warren Foegele pushed his way to the net in an attempt to score on a power move. Laurent Brossoit stood tall.
  • Ivan Barbashev and Jack Eichel went to work off the rush again, with Eichel just missing his shot to the left.
  • Phil Kessel stole the puck away from the Oilers' defense on the forecheck and fed Nicolas Roy for a great chance.
  • The Oilers' top line, led by Connor McDavid, hemmed in the Golden Knights in their own zone with several chances midway through the second.
  • EDM PP- Shea Theodore was called for holding Devin Shore, gifting the Oilers their second powerplay.
  • 2-2 EDM GOAL- Leon Draisaitl scored his 28th powerplay goal of the season on a feed from Connor McDavid just 21 seconds in.
  • The Oilers out-chanced the Golden Knights, but a mixture of shot-blocking, luck, and goaltending kept the VGK in the game along with their two opportunistic goals.

THIRD PERIOD

  • The Golden Knights started the third with a myriad of chances, led by Nicolas Roy, who had some good looks.
  • Fellow bottom-six centerman Teddy Blueger got two big chances in front of the Oilers' net.
  • 3-2 VGK GOAL- Jack Eichel found Jonathan Marchessault rushing in the slot for the big go-ahead goal.
  • Mattias Ekholm joined the play and received a pass from Connor McDavid, but Laurent Brossoit made a big save.
  • 3-3 EDM GOAL- Former Erie Otter Warren Foegele slipped a shot past Laurent Brossoit after a shot LB would likely want to have back.
  • A loose puck found its way in front of the net to Mattias Janmark, but Laurent Brossoit came back to make the save after he misplayed the puck.
  • VGK PP- Mattias Ekholm held onto William Karlsson as he drove to the net, giving the VGK a powerplay.
  • 4 on 4- Some rough stuff ensued behind the net between Vincent Desharnais and Phil Kessel, resulting in penalties for both with 1:39 left.

OVERTIME

  • 4-3 VGK GOAL- Jack Eichel found Nicolas Roy all alone, and he scored on his rebound chance to end the game.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS NOTES

  • With yet another goal, Pavel Dorofeyev has five goals and seven points in his last seven games.
