The Vegas Golden Knights (35-18-5, 75 points) came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Calgary Flames (27-20-12, 66 points) 4-3 in overtime with Alex Pietrangelo scoring the overtime game-winner. The Flames have still never won a game at T-Mobile Arena in eight contests.

Here's how it went down.

FIRST PERIOD

  • With Nicolas Roy injured, Byron Froese got to start the game against his former team on the fourth line.
  • Paul Cotter won a puck battle and got the biscuit over to Jack Eichel, who just fired a shot high and wide.
  • Blake Coleman stuck his stick out for a good tip on Nikita Zadorov's shot, but Laurent Brossoit closed the wickets.
  • Reilly Smith got a step after he received a William Karlsson pass. Dennis Gilbert came back and made a strong stick check to prevent the chance.
  • CGY PP- Byron Froese was called for hooking Blake Coleman.
  • On the powerplay, Andrew Mangiapane got a good look in the slot and Laurent Brossoit made a big save.
  • CGY PP- The Flames continued to generate momentum after their first powerplay. Shea Theodore was then called for holding.
  • 1-0 CGY GOAL- The Flames muscled in a goal on the powerplay with Jakob Pelletier cleaning up a rebound chance.
  • The Golden Knights had a chance with Michael Amadio attacking the net, but the ref lost sight of the puck and blew the whistle early.
  • CGY PP- The Golden Knights took their third penalty of the period with Jonathan Marchessault going off for a high stick.
  • The Flames closed out the period with the majority of chances and leading in shots 18 to 7.

SECOND PERIOD

  • 2-0 CGY GOAL- The Flames scored early in the second as Jonathan Huberdeau received a pass in the slot from Jakob Pelletier.
  • VGK PP- Mackenzie Weegar took a delay of game penalty.
  • The Golden Knights continued to pass horribly, and the only quality powerplay chance came from Andrew Mangiapane on the other team.
  • Paul Cotter was stoned in the slot by the pad of Dan Vladar after Jack Eichel hit him with a centering pass driving the net.
  • Laurent Brossoit came way out of his crease to stop a rolling puck from becoming a breakaway to Elias Lindholm.
  • Once again, a pass was just out of reach for a VGK player as Jack Eichel's breakaway pass to Jonathan Marchessault just missed.
  • CGY PP- Walker Duehr ran into Laurent Brossoit and went off for goaltender interference.
  • Brayden McNabb didn't like the collision and stirred things up in the neutral zone.
  • 2-1 VGK GOAL- On the powerplay, Jack Eichel ripped a wrist shot on from the left circle to score.
  • 3-1 CGY GOAL- The Flames re-claimed their two-goal lead with Mikael Backlund tipping in a shot from Blake Coleman.
  • Reilly Smith found Michael Amadio in front of the net but he hit a post on his shot attempt.

THIRD PERIOD

  • Play started to open up in the third period with both teams getting rush chances back and forth.
  • 3-2 VGK GOAL- Zach Whitecloud joined a Golden Knights rush, received a pass from Reilly Smith, and scored.
  • Phil Kessel saw the puck come to him in the slot but his backhand shot was denied by Dan Vladar.
  • 3-3 VGK GOAL- Chandler Stephenson made a slick play to chip a puck past Noah Hanifin which eventually led to a Will Carrier goal.
  • Just like Chandler Stephenson did a play earlier, Brett Howden stole the puck from Chris Tanev and got a quality chance.
  • CGY PP- For the third straight game, the Golden Knights took a late penalty as Brett Howden was called for a high stick.
  • Rasmus Andersson's point shot hit the post on the Flame's powerplay. The Golden Knights went on to make the kill.
  • Paul Cotter and Jonathan Marchessault both collided with Dillion Dube and a referee near the VGK bench.

OVERTIME

  • 4-3 VGK GOAL- Jonathan Marchessault's shot hit a post, and Alex Pietrangelo cleaned up the rebound for the game-winning goal.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS NOTES

  • The Golden Knights put together a resilient game in a playoff-like atmosphere and defeated a division rival.
  • With an assist on Jack Eichel's goal, Shea Theodore now has nine points in his last six games.
  • The Golden Knight's passing game looked weak early with several passes missing their targets, being timed poorly, or having unaware receivers.
  • For whatever reason, the Golden Knights like to take several penalties against the Flames. They took six penalties in the second period against the Flames on Oct. 18 and three penalties in the first period Thursday night.
  • Jack Eichel's powerplay goal ended a Golden Knights powerplay drought of not scoring on 25 straight attempts.
