Golden Knights Logan Thompson Overly Self-Critical Again

Rookie goaltender Logan Thompson continues to listen to fans of opposing teams. Chants of "Goalie, goalie, you suck, it's all your fault," were pioneered by the Nashville Predators' fanbase during their 2017 Stanley Cup Finals Run.

Now they have gone league-wide, and Thompson appears to be taking input from chants like these instead of accurately assessing his own play. Because after a 3-2 overtime loss against the New Jersey Devils Tuesday night, Thompson blamed himself for the Golden Knight's loss.

"I just lost it. They score in the first four minutes of the game and in the last minute, so that is on me. I just gotta be better," said Thompson.

The thing is, the loss was far from LT's fault. The Devils' first two goals went in off defenders Kaedan Korczak and Brayden McNabb. The third goal, the overtime winner by Dougie Hamilton, was a rocket slapshot that coach Bruce Cassidy admitted most goalies in the league wouldn't have been able to stop.

See for yourself- Goal no. 1 (Ondrej Palat), goal no. 2 (Dougie Hamilton), and goal no. 3 (Hamilton x2)

"Both of the goals were unfortunate for us and lucky for Jersey. You give them credit for going to the net and putting the puck toward the net. But that happened recently in Dallas; two went on off our guys, so four goals have gone in off our own guys in recent memory. You have to shake that off," said Cassidy.

But Thompson still puts the blame on himself.

"Our defense has been great. The whole team has been doing their jobs in the whole system that Butch (Bruce Cassidy) wants us to do. I just have to make one more save… Everyone is doing their job right now except for me. I have got to do better," said Thompson.

Strong disagree here, Logan. There are oodles of players on this team that are not doing their job right now. Stars Jack Eichel and Chandler Stephenson are not scoring consistently without Mark Stone in the lineup. The defense is struggling to limit chances from the slot and is seemingly just backboards for pucks to ricochet off and into the net. The forward depth on this team is also non-existent with the current injuries the team has. Goaltending is not the main problem.

Not just great athletes, but great people always put pressure on themselves to be better. But there has to come a point where enough is enough, and you have to focus on the locus of control, only worrying about what factors you can control. Thompson is blaming himself for things he can't control.

"It's unacceptable my last ten games. I have got to start winning hockey. That is what I am here to do. I haven't done my job. I can make the save on all of those goals. It's pretty unacceptable, and I have got to be better," said Thompson.

Just because the Golden Knights are losing doesn't mean Thompson has been bad. Far from it, to be exact. He has come up with crucial saves in games where the VGK have struggled to generate anything on offense. There is a reason why he had started three games in four nights.

The Golden Knights will start a back-to-back series against the Rangers and then the Islanders starting on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
