News has surfaced that Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner and his wife Donya filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy with the District of Nevada on Dec 30, 2022. Lehner's assets are worth $1-10 million, whereas his liability to his creditors is worth between $10 and $50 million.
Sinbin.Vegas were the first to discover the story.
This bankruptcy is connected to Lehner's exotic reptile farm in Plato, RL Exotics LLC, which is a collection of exotic snakes he purchased in 2017 for $1.2 million. Lehner bought the animals from a man named Ben Renick, who, in June of 2017, was murdered by his wife, Lynlee Renick.
In 2018 a lawsuit was filed against Lehner when he stopped making payments for the reptiles. Lehner was reportedly in agreement to pay Renick quarterly payments of $200,000 throughout the year. Lehner reportedly only made one payment in February of 2017.
Lehner reportedly argued that he took on millions of dollars in costs to take care of the animals, which grew in number as they bred.
Renick Reptiles, Ben Renick's company, reportedly argued back that Lehner had stolen a collection of anacondas from the business.
In 2019, the two sides announced a settlement and stated that they wanted to keep the terms of it confidential. Lehner then went on to form RL Exotics LLC in 2019.
