Vegas inked a seven-year contract extension with a key player who has been with the team since their inaugural season.

On Thursday, the Vegas Golden Knights officially signed defenseman Shea Theodore to a seven-year contract extension.

The deal will keep Theodore in Vegas through the 2031-2032 season. It has an average annual value of $7,425,000.

Originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 2013, the British Columbia native Theodore layed his first two NHL seasons in Anaheim before being traded to the Golden Knights on the night of the Vegas Expansion Draft in 2017. He has been with the Golden Knights for all eight of their seasons. Theodore is one of three “original misfits” remaining from Vegas’s inaugural 2017-2018 Stanley Cup Final team, along with William Karlsson and Brayden McNabb.

“I’m excited to be here for another seven years and really solidify this place as” Theodore said in a video posted on the team’s social media handle.

In his NHL career, Theodore has scored 72 goals and recorded 241 assists. He has a career plus-minus rating of +66.

During Vegas’s 2023 run to capture the Stanley Cup, Theodore had 13 points with a +8 rating. He has averaged over 20 minutes of ice time per game during each of his five postseasons with the Golden Knights.
