Let’s take a look at three takeaways from the Golden Knights 4-3 overtime victory over Utah on Saturday night.

On Saturday night, the Golden Knights defeated the Utah Hockey Club 4-3 in overtime. Here are three takeaways from the game.

Home Cooking Continues

The streak appeared to be in jeopardy for a while, but in the end, it prevailed. With the win over Utah, the Golden Knights remained undefeated at home to begin the 2024-2025 season, improving their record at T-Mobile Arena to 8-0-0.

Unfortunately for Vegas, however, they are also winless on the road, with a 0-3-1 mark away from home. They will look to change that this week when they visit Edmonton and Seattle.

Slow Start

While the Golden Knights were able to keep their perfect home record intact, for a while, it appeared that would not be the case. Vegas did not play anywhere near its A-game in the first period, and trailed 2-0 late in the second.

When the game was on the line, however, the Golden Knights were able to make the plays that counted. Vegas scored three unanswered goalsโ€”including a Noah Hanifin tally with one second remaining in the second periodโ€”before Utah tied it late in the third to send the game to overtime.

Howden’s Heroics

Brett Howden’s sixth goal on the season proved to be his biggest. At 2:15 of the overtime period, Howden deked out a defender and potted a backhand shot past Utah goalie Connor Ingram for the game-winner.

Thanks to Howden’s heroics, Vegas earned its 17th point of the season, good for first place in the Pacific Division.

Up Next

After a few days off, the Golden Knights will head to Edmonton to take on the Oilers Wednesday night. Puck drop is set for 5:30 PM PST.
