On Saturday, the Vegas Golden Knights recalled goaltender Akira Schmid from AHL Henderson.

Originallt drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 2018, Vegas acquired 24 year-old Swiss netminder on draft night this past summer. Despite being a standout during the preseason, Schmid was assigned to Henderson to begin the 2024-2025 season.

In three seasons with New Jersey, Schmid appeared in 43 games, making 33 starts. He has a career goals against average of 2.90 and a save percentage of .899.

The Golden Knights opened the 2024-2025 season with Adin Hill and Ilya Samsonov as the goaltenders on their active roster. However, Hill and Samsonov have struggled during the first month of the season with Hill posting a disappointing 3.20 goals against average and Samsonov only slightly better at 2.95.

With Hill and Samsonov struggling, it appears as though Schmid may get a shot to appear in some NHL games.

Vegas is back in action Saturday night when they host Utah at T-Mobile Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM PDT.
