LAS VEGAS— In an incredibly fast-paced game between two good teams, the Vegas Golden Knights (20-9-1, 41 points) lost to the Boston Bruins (22-4-1, 45 points) 3-1 Sunday afternoon in the battle between the top team in the East and the top team in the West.

It was a close-knit game, with the two teams being tied at 1-1 entering the third period. The Golden Knights continued to struggle to score goals at home as their home record now drops to 8-7-0. Jack Eichel, Shea Theodore, and Alex Pietrangelo were all unavailable for the Golden Knights.

FIRST PERIOD

  • Logan Thompson made another big stop on Charlie Coyle and the Bruins off the rush. A scrum ensued thereafter, which led to a penalty.
  • VGK PP- AJ Greer was called for an unsportsmanlike penalty, which sent the Golden Knights to the powerplay.
  • 1-0 VGK GOAL- Using his reach, Mark Stone scored on the powerplay, tucking in a goal past Linus Ullmark.
  • It didn't take long for the game to gain some edge. This is the second time these teams met in a week's span. Linus Ullmark gave Nicolas Roy some chops to the shin with his goal stick, and Zach Whitecloud and David Pastrnak exchanged words at center ice. This continued all night.
  • The Bruins, despite being down by a goal, still maintained offensive chances in the first. Taylor Hall was stopped by Logan Thompson after Hampus Lindholm found him with a nice pass.
  • VGK PP- Brad Marchand slew-footed Nicolas Hague, who was going back to retrieve a puck.
  • BOS PP- With nine seconds left in the Golden Knight's powerplay and 29.1 in the first period, Nicolas Roy was called for tripping.
  • Zach Whitecloud knocked Brad Marchand to the ice in the corner to end the period.
  • It was a wildly entertaining first period between two good teams playing an incredibly fast pace game.

SECOND PERIOD

  • The Golden Knights started the second off by killing a Bruins penalty.
  • During the PK, a Bruins player fell on Zach Whitecloud's leg, which caused an injury. Whitecloud needed assistance to get to the locker room.
  • 1-1 BOS GOAL- Things got worse for the Golden Knights in the second as they left Patrice Bergeron open in the slot, and he scored.
  • The Bruins maintained pace in the second, getting tons of chances on Logan Thompson.
  • BOS PP- Ben Hutton tripped David Pastrnak and went to the box. The Golden Knights came up with a huge kill.
  • Out of the box, Ben Hutton had a breakaway chance but was stopped by Linus Ullmark.
  • The chippiness of the game continued with Chandler Stephenson cross-checking Connor Clifton into his own net.
  • Keegan Kolesar made a great pass to find a cutting-to-the-net Will Carrier, but he was stopped by Linus Ullmark.
  • The Golden Knight's third line of Phil Kessel, Michael Amadio, and Jake Leschyshyn put together a strong offensive zone shift.
  • VGK PP- Charlie Coyle's stick got caught in between Ben Hutton's legs.

THIRD PERIOD

  • Logan Thompson made another remarkable save, this time on Taylor Hall, who cut into the zone.
  • 3-1 BOS GOAL- The Bruins made it a two-goal lead halfway through the third. Charlie Coyle scored with the Bruins creating traffic.
  • The chances were there, but the Golden Knights continued to struggle to find the back of the net at home.
  • Logan Thompson was out of the net for the VGK with 2:20 remaining in the game. Bruce Cassidy used his timeout with 1:26 left.
