Cormier was off to a flying start with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Charlottetown Islanders this season before the league went on an extended break due to COVID-19 precautions. In his first 13 games of the season the Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, NB native had 21 points to lead all defenseman league-wide and place tied for sixth overall. His 14 assists are good for fifth overall. Cormier’s 1.615 points-per-game ranks tops among D in the QMJHL and eighth overall.
His hot start also saw him named Defenseman of the Month for October. Cormier put up 13 points in nine games to snag the honor. He was one of Team Canada’s last cuts before starting the World Junior Championships currently being played in Edmonton, AB.
