The long-awaited 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games are just seven months away. Throughout the day on Monday, the 12 participating countries revealed six players on their preliminary rosters. One of the first six named by Team USA is superstar center Jack Eichel of the Vegas Golden Knights.

Eichel, 28, spent two years with the US National Development Program and will represent his country internationally for the eighth time. The last time NHL players were permitted to represent their countries at the Olympics was in 2014 in Sochi. So, this will be Eichel’s first Olympic Games.

At the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, Eichel successfully shut down Connor McDavid while continuing to produce offensively. In four games, he recorded four assists, tied for second among Team USA skaters. Team USA dominated the group stage but fell just short of winning, losing to Canada in the gold medal game.

Eichel led the Golden Knights in scoring last year, setting a new franchise single-season record with 94 points. In 2023, he helped them to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. Eichel led the Golden Knights in scoring with six goals and 26 points in 22 postseason games.

Team Denmark also named Jonas Røndbjerg, a Golden Knights’ pending RFA, to their preliminary roster. Røndbjerg played 13 games with the Golden Knights last year but spent most of the season in Henderson with the Silver Knights. He was an alternate captain and recorded 11 goals and 26 points in 53 games.

The 12 participating teams— Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, and USA— will name the rest of their rosters in January. The Men’s Olympic ice hockey tournament will begin on February 11th, 2026, and conclude on February 22nd.
