Holtz-Out Over! Golden Knights Finally Sign Restricted Free Agent
The last Restricted Free Agent is finally off the board. On Tuesday, the day before their Opening Night, the Vegas Golden Knights re-signed Alexander Holtz.
Holtz’s new contract is a two-year deal carrying an AAV of $837,500.
Earlier today, Elliotte Friedman reported that he expected Vegas to sign Holtz before their first game on Wednesday. It didn’t take that long.
Because the deal took so long to come to fruition, Holtz entered Training Camp on a PTO. He appeared in six preseason games, drew three penalties, and scored a goal. His hard work paid off, and general manager Kelly McCrimmon rewarded him with a contract.

Holtz isn’t currently listed on the Golden Knights’ roster— Jeremy Davies must first pass through waivers so they can remain cap compliant. He is, however, practicing with the team.
The Golden Knights acquired Holtz, along with Akira Schmid, from the New Jersey Devils last summer. In exchange, they sent Paul Cotter and a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft back the other way. Holtz, a former 7th overall pick, skated in 53 games with the Golden Knights last season, but struggled to find his footing. He scored just four goals and 12 points, averaging 11:35 of ice time.
Two years ago, Holtz played a full 82 games with the Devils, scoring 16 goals and 28 points. He won’t crack the Golden Knights’ Opening Night lineup, but he’ll likely be the next man up in case of injury.
