Daily Nuggets: Miserable Marchessault; Trade Rumors; Rematch?

Good morning, folks. Yesterday, the NHL world came alive. While there wasn’t any real activity, Wednesday’s news feels like the groundwork for an offseason of excitement. If you took the day off, chances are that you missed quite a bit. Rumors were flying every which way, and one involved a certain Conn Smythe winner with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Elsewhere in the Daily Nuggets, the Florida Panthers completed the gentleman’s sweep; if the Edmonton Oilers hold pace, we’ll be in for a 2024 Stanley Cup Final rematch. Speaking of the Oilers, they’ll have to go the rest of the way without one of their best players because Zach Hyman requires surgery. And the New York Rangers are testing the market for a potential K’Andre Miller trade.
As for me, I’ve fully recovered from my health scare last week, and I’m back in full swing. I missed you all terribly– so much so that we’re trying another Vegas Hockey Now Mailbag. One of my favorite parts of this job is the opportunity to interact with all of you, so if you’d like to participate, I’ll be eternally grateful.
Okay, enough from the peanut gallery. Let’s talk some hockey!
Golden Knights News
I guess the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the country. Original Misfit Jonathan Marchessault left the Golden Knights for the Nashville Predators last year in Free Agency, but it sounds like that marriage has gone sour. After a disappointing season, Marchessault is reportedly open to a trade.
Are Mitch Marner and the Golden Knights a match made in heaven? Frank Seravalli seems to think so– and, quite frankly, so do I. Marner fills a hole that the Golden Knights desperately need to be filled.
Okay, now for the Mailbag. You’ve got questions; we’ve got answers. I’m flying to Vegas to tour apartments on Friday and taking a redeye home on Sunday night. Here’s the problem– I’ve never been able to sleep on planes. So, it’s my master plan to try and pass the flight with a Mailbag.
If you have any questions about the Golden Knights season, the upcoming offseason, or anything else you can think up, don’t hesitate to participate! I’ll accept all submissions– on Twitter, over on the Facebook page, or in the comment section.
The Athletic ($): Two Golden Knights– Adin Hill and Tomáš Hertl– headline Sean McIndoe’s 2025 Playoffs All-Bust Team.
NHL News, Rumors, & National Hockey Now

Daily Faceoff: Jonathan Marchessault and K’Andre Miller are just two players who could be on the move this offseason— JJ Peterka and Erik Karlsson headline Frank Seravalli’s Top 20 Trade Targets.
Edmonton Journal: The Oilers are positively rolling right now and are well on their way to their second straight Stanley Cup Final appearance. Unfortunately, they’ll have to get over the hill without Zach Hyman, who is done for the season.
Sportsnet: On Wednesday, the Winnipeg Jets announced that their captain, Adam Lowry, underwent hip surgery. He’s expected to miss five to six months, likely carrying over into the start of the 2025-26 season.
Montreal Hockey Now: Thanks, but no thanks. Jonathan Marchessault’s preferred trade destination is his hometown, Quebec, but the Habs just don’t need him.
Florida Hockey Now: After a multigoal comeback, the Panthers are heading back to the Stanley Cup Final. For the Cats, it’s just business as usual; this is their third consecutive year in the Final, and the job’s not finished.
Philly Hockey Now: The Draft Lottery screwed the Flyers, dropping them from fourth overall to sixth. Well, no fate but what we make. The San Jose Sharks are open to trading the second overall pick, and the Flyers need to acquire it.
New Jersey Hockey Now: The Devils need scoring. A Free Agency reunion with an old friend would simply make too much sense.
NHL History: On May 29th, 1993, Wayne Gretzky’s hat trick propelled his Los Angeles Kings to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in franchise history.
