With the Stanley Cup Playoffs still ongoing, the NHL hasn’t fully shifted into offseason mode. However, 28 teams–including the Vegas Golden Knights– are sitting at home. But with the NHL Draft and Free Agency right around the corner, they’re not twiddling their thumbs. No, they’re waiting patiently for someone to blink.

Usually, we don’t see a flurry of activity around the league until after Gary Bettman hands over the Stanley Cup. And though both Conference Finals feel wildly non-competitive, neither has concluded. Thus, it will likely be at least a few weeks before teams make any real moves.

To me, this dry spell means that it’s time for another Mailbag.

You ask, we answer. There’s no shortage of topics to talk about right now. The biggest is, of course, Mitch Marner, who reportedly has interest in the Golden Knights. Does that work? I’ve already given my thoughts on that, but there’s always more to discuss.

The Golden Knights have six players on expiring contracts, including Reilly Smith. Which should stay, and which should go? And after the Stanley Cup Finals, there will be Free Agency. Even if the Golden Knights don’t pursue Mitch Marner, there are a few high-end players set to hit the market.

Around the league, Jonathan Marchessault is also in the news cycle. Just one year removed from signing with the Nashville Predators in Free Agency, he’s reportedly open to a trade. Could we see another Original Misfit reunion in Vegas?

Here’s how this is going to work:

If you have questions or comments about the Golden Knights season, the way it ended, or any other matter, please submit them in the comments below. Subscribers will have priority, but in the words of Styx, we’ve got too much time on our hands. So, I will do my best to answer everyone gracious enough to submit a question.
