On Thursday, May 1st, 2025, the hockey world officially bid au revoir to future Hall of Fame goaltender Marc-André Fleury. Fleury, who spent four seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights, will go down as one of the best goaltenders of all time.

During his Golden Knights tenure, Fleury’s skilled play and off-ice antics won over the hearts of fans and teammates alike. His theatrical saves, combined with his joyful and fun-loving nature, made him an immediate fan favorite.

With a record of 117-60-14 in 192 games, Fleury is the winningest goaltender in Golden Knights history. He was an original ‘Golden Misfit’ and took them all the way to the Stanley Cup Final in their first season. In 2020-21, Fleury won the Vezina Trophy and the William M. Jennings Trophy.

Following the Golden Knights’ 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild, Fleury made his way through the handshake line one final time. The Golden Knights– several of whom played with Fleury– made sure to give Flower his, ah, flowers. After the handshake line, the four officials shook his hand and embraced him. All the while, the fans in attendance at Xcel Energy Center chanted Fleury’s name, cheering and saluting the legendary goaltender.

Of course, ESPN cut away from the feed in favor of Game 6 between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings. Instead of handshakes, viewers were treated to a blue-and-orange-clad crowd singing “O Canada” and cheering their team on.

Thankfully, in the age of cell phones and social media, the ‘greatest tradition in all of sports’ didn’t escape national attention.

Fleury didn’t play on Thursday, making his last NHL appearance at T-Mobile Arena.
