The Vegas Golden Knights are three days into a well-deserved two-week-long break. They haven’t made any moves, but they’ve been mentioned in trade rumors. Elsewhere in the Daily Nuggets, there hasn’t been much action around the leagueyet. Elliotte Friedman teased trades– although this Tweet makes it seem like Friedman is suggesting that some teams will ‘Old Yeller’ certain players– but that hasn’t come to fruition yet. So, you’ll have to settle for rumors and whispers.

The 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament kicks off tonight with Team Canada vs Team Sweden. You might’ve seen a few commercials for it; at this point, I can practically quote them by heart. “Four nations, facing off. For what? For friend– and foe.” But I digress.

I re-watched my favorite SNL skit last night. To quote Chance the Rapper, let’s do that hockey.

Golden Knights News

There’s hockey tonight. It’s not Golden Knights hockey; heck, it’s not even San Jose Sharks hockey. But who am I to complain? For me, these past few days without hockey have been torture– hey, the first step is to admit that you have a problem– so my excitement for the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament has only been amplified. And, hey, it’s adjacent to Golden Knights hockey; both Shea Theodore and Mark Stone will suit up for Team Canada. And boy, oh boy, I’m looking forward to seeing Mark Stone play with Sidney Crosby.

On the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman said that teams called the St. Louis Blues to inquire about their captain, Brayden Schenn. He wonders if the Golden Knights would be a good fit.

Yesterday, the Golden Knights announced the creation of the Vegas Golden Knights High School Hockey League (VGKHSL). There will be Major and Minor teams in eight expected areas.

The Athletic ($): Scott Wheeler released his annual NHL prospect ranking, and two Golden Knights prospects made the cut. Trevor Connelly, the first-round pick in 2024, comes in at 37th, and Mathieu Cataford, a third-round pick in 2023, ranks 100th.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

New York Islanders Hockey Now: Brock Nelson might be one of the most polarizing players in the league right now. His pending UFA status makes him an attractive trade rental, and he’s at the top of almost every trade board. Despite this, the Islanders are interested in re-signing him; here’s what a potential extension could look like.

Montreal Hockey Now: Kevin Weekes listed the Canadiens as one of the teams interested in Buffalo Sabres forward Dylan Cozens.

Chicago Hockey Now: Blackhawks fans haven’t had it easy this season, as the team is performing even worse than expected. However, there are still reasons to watch them; Greg Boysen lists three.

Boston Hockey Now: The Eastern Conference playoff race is a dogfight. The Bruins are currently out of the playoffs, but only by one point. Here are three reasons to be optimistic about the B’s making the postseason.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Sidney Crosby adds another bullet point to his ever-growing legacy. The QMJHL is naming a trophy after him.
