Daily Nuggets: Karlsson Out For Sweden; Oilers Toasting Golden Knights

William Karlsson Vegas Golden Knights forward

The Vegas Golden Knights aren’t winning games, but more concerningly, they’re struggling to score. They lost their fourth game in a row last night against a New York Islanders team that’s more beat up than John McClane at the end of Die Hard. Elsewhere in the Daily Nuggets, Alex Ovechkin is a stone’s throw from etching his name into the history books. William Karlsson is officially out for the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament, and his replacement has been named

Golden Knights News

As expected, William Karlsson is pulling out of the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament. Karlsson hasn’t played since January 20th and is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Speaking of injuries, Tanner Pearson was unavailable for last night’s game against the New York Islanders due to an upper-body injury. Raphaël Lavoie also missed the game with an injury. I believe they’re both day-to-day. Cole Schwindt is presumably still week-to-week, and I wouldn’t expect to see him until after the break. I am also day-to-day with an upper-body injury (don’t ask, but it involved an air fryer).

The Golden Knights’ finishing deficiencies are starting to become seriously concerning. They allowed the Islanders two goals on just 14 shots last night but only managed to get one past Ilya Sorokin.

The Edmonton Oilers, on the other hand, beat the St. Louis Blues in overtime last night. Up two points in the standings with a game in hand, the Oilers officially move past the Golden Knights for first in the Pacific.

The lone Golden Knights goal came courtesy of Brandon Saad. Saad’s goal showed exactly what he brings to this lineup. He’s fast, can get to the net, and has good hands. I think he’ll fit in just fine.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: Yeah, it was an empty netter, but Alex Ovechkin scored a buzzer-beater yesterday. He needs just 17 more goals to pass Wayne Gretzky’s record.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: William Karlsson is officially out of the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament, and Rickard Rakell has been named as his replacement.

New York Islanders Hockey Now: Last night’s game was just another drop in a sea of bad losses for the Golden Knights. For the Islanders, however, it was a showcase of resiliency as they continue to scratch and claw their way back into the playoff race despite some of the worst injury luck I’ve seen since Beau Bennett.

Montreal Hockey Now: Marc Dumont projects some realistic returns for Canadiens players who have been generating some trade buzz.

NHL History: On February 5th, 1967, Bobby Hull became the first Chicago Blackhawks player to score 350 career goals.
