Golden Knights Gameday
Golden Knights Game 53, Gone Fishin’; Lines, Notes, & How to Watch vs Islanders

The Vegas Golden Knights (31-16-6) are in the doldrums of their season. January is rarely kind to the Golden Knights, and they’re 3-7-3 in their last 13 games. They’ll get another chance to right the ship today against the red-hot New York Islanders (24-21-7) at UBS Arena.

The Golden Knights have struggled mightily with consistency in the new year. Since early January, they’ve struggled to finish and have been let down by goaltending, and Sunday’s matinee matchup against the New York Rangers was no exception. Despite positive results from new defensive pairings, the Golden Knights fell to the Rangers 4-2.
Red-hot isn’t usually a term I–or anyone– would use to describe the Islanders, but these are strange times. They entered Sunday’s matchup against the Florida Panthers on a seven-game winning streak. The Islanders scored three goals in the second period to take the lead but couldn’t keep up with the Panthers offensively and ultimately lost 6-3.
UPDATED: Ilya Samsonov starts for the Golden Knights. He has a record of 6-5-1 and an average save percentage of .881 in 12 career games against the Islanders.
Ilya Sorokin, the NHL’s 1st star of the week, will start in net for the Islanders. Sorokin has a record of 2-2-1, an average save percentage of .933, and three shutouts in five career starts against the Golden Knights.

Game Notes
The Golden Knights are 6-5-2 against the Islanders and have never lost to them in regulation on the road.
Today’s game is the second and final meeting between the Golden Knights and the Islanders this season. In their first game, the Islanders shut out the Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena and won 4-0.
Mat Barzal is not in the lineup today and won’t be for quite some time. The Islanders announced that he will be out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.
Jack Eichel has six goals in his last five games.
The Golden Knights penalty kill has struggled lately and was atrocious in their last game against the Rangers. However, they may not face as tough a test today, as the Islanders have the lowest-ranked power play in the league.
Former Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat has 11 goals and five assists in 19 career games against the Golden Knights.
The Golden Knights are 12-10-3 on the road this season. The Islanders are 12-11-2 at UBS Arena.
