On Monday night, the Vegas Golden Knights fell 5-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes at T-Mobile Arena. Let’s take a look at five takeaways from the loss.

An Ugly Performance

There’s no way around it, that was an ugly performance by Vegas. The Golden Knights had an opportunity to measure themselves up against one of the NHL’s top teams in the Hurricanes, and they failed miserably. Carolina was up 4-0 not even midway through the second period and coasted to a 5-2 win in which they essentially ran the Golden Knights out of their own building.

Fortunately for Vegas, it was only one loss, and it does not count more than any others in the standings. But the Golden Knights simply cannot afford to have many more performances like this going forward.

Home Win Streak Over

Prior to tonight, the Golden Knights had not lost at home on the 2024-2025 season, posting a mark of 8-0-0 on the season. With the loss to Carolina, however, the streak is officially over.

With their home win streak snapped, Vegas’s next challenge is learning to win on the road. The Golden Knights will play seven of their next eight games away from T-Mobile Arena—where they have won just once thus far this season.

Schmid Shines in Relief

Last week, the Golden Knights called up goaltender Akira Schmid from AHL Henderson. With starter Adin Hill allowing four goals in the game’s first 30 minutes, Schmid was pressed into his first action as a Golden Knight in relief.

Schmid was impressive in his Vegas debut, stopping all 12 shots that he faced in more than 33 minutes of action. Although it was too late to salvage this game, it was an encouraging sign from the Golden Knights’ young netminder.

Up Next

Up next, the Golden Knights hit the road to take on the Ducks in Anaheim Wednesday night. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM PST.
