At long last, Vegas will open its 2024-2025 campaign Wednesday evening with Opening Knight against the Colorado Avalanche.

It’s official: Hockey is back!

For the first time in 157 days, the Vegas Golden Knights will take the ice for a meaningful game when they host the Colorado Avalanche at T-Mobile Arena Wednesday evening. The game will be preceded by the team’s “Opening Knight” festivities featuring a gold carpet, fan fest, and player appearances leading up to puck drop, giving fans plenty of reasons to tune in and know where to watch the Vegas Golden Knights as they kick off the season.

The start of a new season is always an incredibly exciting time on the hockey calendar. Last year is now a thing of the past, and every team begins with a clean slate. Regardless of whether you won the Stanley Cup last season or missed the playoffs altogether, the hope and promise that comes along with starting from scratch rings high.

So as we get set to embark on this new campaign together, here is a piece of (completely unsolicited) advice: Enjoy the ride.

As we all know, the NHL season is a marathon, not a sprint. Even with all of the pomp and circumstance, tonight’s Opening Knight is simply the first of 82 games that Vegas will play this season.

While I cannot claim to predict the future, here is a little spoiler for you all: The Golden Knights will win plenty of those games. And here is another one for you: They will also lose plenty of those games.

Inevitably, there will be a lot of great moments this season. There will also inevitably be a lot of not-so-great ones. That is just how this sport works.

So as someone who has gone through the emotional roller coaster of an NHL season many times, my biggest advice would be to embrace it all. Definitely enjoy each win, while also recognizing that the team has a much bigger end goal in sight. And it is perfectly normal to be frustrated after each loss, while also understanding that one defeat is not the end-all-be-all.

When April rolls around, we will have plenty of time to stress out over every shift. Until then, let’s all just sit back, relax, and enjoy what should hopefully be a really fun season.

At long last, Opening Knight is upon us. Now let’s play some hockey!
