Pietrangelo to Have NHL Hearing Over Slashing Draisaitl

Alex Pietrangelo slash, Leon Draisaitl

The Vegas Golden Knights may well be without one of their top defensemen for Game 5 Friday as the NHL Player Safety has summoned Alex Pietrangelo for a hearing.

Pietrangelo raised his stick above his head and delivered a two-hand slash to Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl several moments after Draisaitl missed an open net.

Pietrangelo veered away from the puck and toward Draisaitl to deliver the slash.

The DoPS no longer specifies between a phone hearing or an in-person meeting, so the potential length of suspension isn’t clear. However, it is clear that Pietrangelo took a terrible penalty. Officials reviewed the call on the ice and confirmed a five-minute major and a Game Misconduct.

Perhaps not the most objective source, Edmonton teammate Connor McDavid called for a suspension in his postgame comments.

“You’d like to see it reviewed for sure. I would like to see it suspended,” said McDavid.
