Daily Nuggets: Carrying the Golden Knights, Closed-Door Drama in Calgary

The Vegas Golden Knights face Game 4 Wednesday and have an opportunity to put the Edmonton Oilers in the guillotine. Jack Eichel needs to be the guy who can carry them forward. The Dallas Stars and Carolina Hurricanes both opened a can in Game 4. There was closed-door drama with the Calgary Flames as players and coach battled. Persistent and heavy rumors are circling the Pittsburgh Penguins and Kyle Dubas for the open GM spot, but what about coach Mike Sullivan’s status? Will Connor Bedard mean the end of the Chicago Blackhawks rebuild? And the Florida Panthers go for the Maple Leafs sweep.

Truly, I see the Golden Knights runway being cleared. If they can get past Edmonton, they will be the best team remaining. They are better than Florida, Dallas/Seattle, and they match up well against the Carolina Hurricanes.

I really do appreciate all of your support with Vegas Hockey Now. We’ve been building it for a few years, and we finally found traction only with Owen Krepps’s hard work this season. We’re hoping to take the next steps with our growth (that’s why I’ve been staying out here for the last few weeks). Every social media share and every mention of our in-depth postgame coverage, locker room stories, and analysis helps. Thanks!

Let’s get to the Daily, shall we?

Vegas Golden Knights:

There is a player who can lead the way. No. 1 centers win Stanley Cups. Add them together, and the Golden Knights’ way forward is Jack Eichel.

ESPN anchor John Anderson made a pretty bad joke on Sportscenter following Game 3 that offended Zach Whitecloud (and more than a few others). Anderson apologized, and Whitecloud showed genuine humility and class in his public comments/acceptance. More on the Zach Whitecloud story.

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs:

NHL.com: The Carolina Hurricanes took the New Jersey Devils out to the desert and left them. It was a 6-1 hammering and gave Carolina a 3-1 series lead.

Sportsnet: Womp womp. Seattle didn’t follow up their dominant Game 3 and got thumped by the Dallas Stars in Game 4.

Florida Hockey Now: There is sullen hope in Toronto. They’re not done yet, but down 3-0, it seems a mere formality. Rookie goalie Joseph Woll wants to rage against the dying of the light. The Florida Panthers go for the sweep.

National Hockey Now & NHL Trade Talk

Calgary Hockey Now: WOW — Mackenzie Weegar finally confirmed it. Player and coach battling behind the scenes for the Calgary Flames.

LA Hockey Now: NHL trade speculation that the Kings could put some defenseman on the block? The LA Kings offseason.

Chicago Hockey Now: Does winning the NHL Draft Lottery, presumably to select Connor Bedard, mean an END to the rebuilding strategy for the Chicago Blackhawks?

Back to Calgary: NHL trade talk around Tyler Toffoli? His value will never be higher.

Nashville Hockey Now: It’s been a minute since the Predators had a top-15 pick. They’ve done pretty well, though. The Nashville Predators draft.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Should coach Mike Sullivan be on the hot seat, or is he safe? The honest and real Pittsburgh Penguins analysis.

Boston Hockey Now: After getting bounced in Round One, Jim Montgomery is on the hot seat with the Boston Bruins.
