The Vegas Golden Knights (48-22-8, 104 points) lost in overtime to the Nashville Predators (39-30-8, 86 points), who kept their playoff hopes alive.
Former Golden Knight Cody Glass scored in overtime after Jonathan Marchessault took a penalty in the extra frame.
FIRST PERIOD
- Phillip Tomasino was gifted a chance right in front of the net after a Golden Knights turnover. Jonathan Quick made the save.
- The Golden Knights had a couple of point shots, one of which rebounded right to Brett Howden for a chance.
- Nicolas Hague got rocked behind the Golden Knight's net by Yakov Trenin.
- 1-0 NSH GOAL- Thomas Novak found a loose puck and then went in to backhand a shot on Jonathan Quick.
- NSH PP- Brett Howden took an offensive zone penalty as his stick got caught in between the legs of Kevin Gravel.
- Pavel Dorofeyev made a couple of chances happen as his offensive instincts drove him into the slot.
- NSH PP- Another offensive zone penalty was taken, this time by Ivan Barbashev for holding.
- 2-0 NSHS GOAL- Thomas Novak scored yet again, this time on the powerplay to further the Predators' lead.
- VGK PP- Rasmus Asplund went to the box with a tripping minor.
- 5 on 3- Just 12 seconds into the first powerplay, Ryan McDonagh joined Rasmus Asplund in the box, going off with a high-stick.
- On the two-man advantage, Kevin Lankinen made some huge saves, most importantly on Jack Eichel.
- NO GOAL- The Predators scored again, but not officially, as Tyson Barrie kicked in the puck.
SECOND PERIOD
- Ben Hutton set up Jonathan Marchessault for a great scoring chance, but he missed the net.
- Jack Eichel had a step in his game, continuously being the driving force of the Golden Knight's offense.
- 2-1 VGK GOAL- Alex Pietrangelo's shot hit Kevin Lankinen and then Kevin Gravel and in.

- The Golden Knights continued their onslaught of pressure in an attempt to tie the game.
- Jonathan Marchessault and Pavel Dorofeyev teamed up for a collection of great chances that either hit posts or were saved by Kevin Lankinen.
- NSH PP- Ivan Barbashev's clearing attempt went out of play, resulting in a delay of game penalty.
- 2-2 VGK GOAL- After killing the penalty, Alex Pietrangelo scored again with a cannon shot.

- The Golden Knights put together a strong second period, leading the game in shots 26-16 after 40.
THIRD PERIOD
- The Golden Knights continued to maintain pressure in the third period with most of the puck possession.
- Alex Pietrangelo had a shot at the hat trick with a one-timer off the left circle that Kevin Lankinen stopped.
- The Predators were hemmed in their own zone for an extended period of time after Egor Afanasyev broke a stick.
- VGK PP- The zone pressure ended with Reilly Smith ripping a shot after a toe-drag and Kevin Lankinen knocking the net off. The officials determined that it was a delay of game penalty on the goaltender.
- The Predators came up with a strong penalty-killing effort, and the game went to overtime.
OVERTIME
- Jonathan Quick made a big save on Thomas Novak and paddled out the rebound to keep the play moving.
- Jack Eichel drove to the net with a burst of speed but crashed into the net after some defensive pressure.
- NSH PP- Jonathan Marchessault tripped up Phillip Tomasino and was called for holding.
- After the play, Marchessault shot a puck at Tomasino, likely unhappy with Tomasino's reaction to his defensive coverage.
- 3-2 NSH GOAL- The Predators scored on the ensuing powerplay, winning the game in OT with Cody Glass scoring.
GOLDEN KNIGHTS NOTES
- The Golden Knights controlled the majority of the later two periods but were unable to solve Kevin Lankinen and the Predators.
- Jonathan Quick had a not-so-great first period, but put together a much better second and third to get the game into overtime.
- With two goals, Alex Pietrangelo is now up to 56 points, which ties the single-season record for defensive points for the VGK.
- Elsewhere in the league the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers are currently playing a critical game in terms of playoff standings.
