Vegas Golden Knights (48-22-103 points) came back and defeated the Minnesota Wild (44-23-10, 98 points) to sweep the home-and-home series against them in the shootout 4-3.

Reilly Smith returned from injury for the VGK, Laurent Brossoit got the start, and Chandler Stephenson missed the game with illness, which brought Pavel Dorofeyev back into the lineup.

FIRST PERIOD

  • The two teams picked up right where they left off with a couple of physical plays and post-whistle-scrums.
  • VGK PP- Nicolas Hague got hooked in his own zone by Sam Steel. The Wild failed to touch the puck for a bit afterward to get the penalty called.
  • On the powerplay, Alex Pietrangelo joined the rush and got a high shot on Filip Gustavsson.
  • Nicolas Roy made a couple of nice plays out of nothing, getting the puck up to his defensemen for two quick shots.
  • 1-0 VGK GOAL- Ben Hutton fired a shot from the blue line, and Keegan Kolesar tipped it in.
  • 4 on 4- Brett Howden and Jon Merrill got into a scrum near the Wild's net, which developed into a 4 on 4.
  • On the 4 on 4, Laurent Brossoit made a couple of nice saves on the Wild in a net-mouth scrum.
  • Another scrum started with Brett Howden being involved after he threw a hit on Matt Boldy. Joel Eriksson Ek didn't like it and went after Howden.
  • VGK PP- After the battle in the corner, the Golden Knights went to the powerplay with Brett Howden getting two minutes and Joel Eriksson Ek getting four minutes.
  • Involved yet again, Brett Howden muscled his way to the net for a chance that was just out of the reach of Nicolas Roy.
  • After the Keegan Kolesar goal, the Wild outshot the Golden Knights 10- 1.

SECOND PERIOD

  • Nicolas Roy got a sharp-angle shot on Filip Gustavsson, but the puck stayed out.
  • The D-pairing of Zach Whitecloud and Brayden McNabb played nearly a two-minute shift trapped in their own zone.
  • 1-1 MIN GOAL- With a burst of speed, Brandon Duhaime sped past Nicolas Hague and wristed home a goal.
  • MIN PP- The Wild took to their first powerplay of the game with William Karlsson cross-checking Marcus Johansson.
  • From behind the net, Connor Dewar found Matt Boldy right in front of the net for a grade-A scoring chance.
  • Laurent Brossoit came way out of his crease to make a big save on Jon Merrill, who pinched for a shot.
  • MIN PP- Alec Martinez took down Mats Zuccarello and went off for tripping.
  • 2-1 MIN GOAL- On the powerplay, John Klingberg scored from the blue line with some smooth skating.
  • 2-2 VGK GOAL- The Golden Knights responded with a goal of their own as Pavel Dorofeyev sniped a long shot.
  • 3-2 MIN GOAL- The two teams continued to trade goals as Matt Boldy scored after a pretty passing play.

THIRD PERIOD

  • Jack Eichel made a horrendous turnover to Ryan Hartman, and Laurent Brossoit bailed him out with a huge save.
  • The Golden Knight's first line continued to struggle, with the first line not generating any quality chances.
  • It took the Golden Knights roughly eight minutes to get their first shot of the third period.
  • VGK PP- Jared Spurgeon tripped up Pavel Dorofeyev to give the Golden Knights another powerplay chance.

  • 3-3 VGK GOAL- With the net empty, Jack Eichel made a nice move to find Pavel Dorofeyev in the slot for the game-tying goal with 34 seconds left.
