Golden Knights Roundup: Martinez Skates, Stone’s Status, and New Lines

"Nothing new to report, they won't play tomorrow," said Vegas Golden Knights head coach in regard to both Mark Stone and Will Carrier, two players who have left the team mid-game lately. Stone left on 1/12 against the Florida Panthers and did not return, and Carrier on 1/14 against the Edmonton Oilers.

One player who also left a game, (1/16 against the Dallas Stars), Alec Martinez was back on the ice for practice Wednesday morning at City National Arena.

"It was more of an illness on why he had to leave, so he is feeling a lot better and should be good to go," said Cassidy.

So no changes on defense. But as the forward group continues to go through injuries, some line shuffling was made.

Phil Kessel was elevated to the top line to play alongside Jack Eichel and now winger once more Chandler Stephenson. The Misfit Line stayed united.

"With guys out (we say) okay, what's our next game, how do they play, and will this be a better line (against that team)? Saturday might be completely different. We've put Stevie (Chandler Stephenson) in the middle, and we have put him on the wing. I know he prefers to play center. But maybe this line combination against a team, we might get more rush opportunities," said Cassidy.

Additionally, Paul Cotter was moved to Will Carrier's spot on the fourth line. A third line of Michael Amadio, Jonas Rondbjerg, and Byron Froese was formed.

"Paul's going down with Roy and Koley (Keegan Kolesar). I thought that line has been consistent all year, and Paul's got a bit of a Carrier flavor in terms of going straight to the net. So maybe that line will give us another line of consistency,"

The Golden Knights are currently missing Stone, Carrier, Brett Howden, Pavel Dorofeyev, Shea Theodore, Zach Whitecloud, and Daniil Miromanov to injury. According to Cassidy, both Howden and Theodore have begun skating.
