The Vegas Golden Knights will play the Seattle Kraken outdoors at T-Mobile Park, home of the Seattle Mariners, on Jan. 1, 2024, in the NHL Winter Classic. The NHL announced the event today, prior to the 2023 NHL Winter Classic played between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins.

The game will be broadcasted by TNT

This is the first Winter Classic for both of the league's most recent expansion teams. The Golden Knights played as the home team outdoors in the NHL's Lake Tahoe series against the Colorado Avalanche in 2021.

Eighteen members of the current Golden Knights roster have played in outdoor games. Phil Kessel (2014, TOR), Alex Pietrangelo (2017, STL), Jack Eichel (2018, BUF), and Robin Lehner (2018, BUF) have played in Winter Classics before, which are traditionally played on either the first or second day of a New Year.

A trip to the Winter Classic will mean new jerseys for the VGK, who have had five main jerseys in their history. They switched to their gold jerseys as their primary home sweater this season, still have their gray home jerseys, white road jerseys, and now both a red and black reverse retro jersey.

Given that they are located in a desert, the Golden Knights have never hosted an NHL outdoor game in Vegas. But the city of Las Vegas has. In 1991 the NHL hosted an outdoor preseason game between the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers at Caesar's Palace.

This story is being updated in real-time as more information regarding the 2024 Winter Classic will be revealed at a later date.
